Congressman James Oberstar Presents on UMD Bicycling Infrastructureand Alternative Transportation
DULUTH, MN --- Former Congressman James Oberstar will give several open-to-the-public presentations on Friday, March 15 at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). He will speak on "Creating and Supporting a Bicycling Infrastructure," in UMD's Bagley Classroom at 9 am. At 10 am, he will discuss "Alternative Transportation," and at 11:10 am, he will dedicate UMD's (and Duluth's) first electric vehicle charging station.

9 – 10 am: Creating and Supporting a Bicycling Infrastructure
Jim Oberstar will share his experiences which have helped to make Minnesota a bicycle-friendly place to live, and will answer questions about how to continue this trend. He will present an overview of various projects/initiatives, including the Duluth Lakewalk, Gitchi-Gami State Trail, Munger Trail, bicycle-friendly urban planning, and bike-commuting in a city like Duluth.
10 – 11 am: Alternative Transportation
Jim Oberstar will discuss successes and challenges in developing a successful alternative transportation options. He will present an overview of various projects/initiatives, including Northern Lights Express, Safe Routes to School, Lowell-to-Lakewalk, Duluth Transit Authority, hybrid buses, carpooling, and transportation policy that favors single-occupant vehicles.
