The official "Chancellor's Welcome Team" comprised of UMD Chancellor Kathryn Martin, along with vice chancellors, deans, professors and staff, will be on hand to "fetch and carry "as students move into their new residence halls. In addition to moving chores, the "Chancellor's Welcome Team" will also work the two food tents, greet parents, answer questions and visit with students. All will be wearing special Welcome Team t-shirts.
Move-In Day kicks off "Bulldog Bash '99", a 12-day series of campus events ranging from convocations and advisement assistance to varsity football, barbecues and entertainment. (Complete schedule is attached).
This fall UMD has enrolled a record number of new freshman totaling 2,025. This is 210 more than last year's freshman enrollment of 1,815. Current total Fall '99 enrollment stands at 7,900. That is up from the Fall '98 number of 7,789.
UMD has also hired 56 new faculty members (the largest number in its history) to accommodate larger enrollments and program development across the campus. Vice Chancellor for Academic Support and Student Life, Bruce Gildseth said, "We're right where we want to be in terms of enrollment numbers. We're right on target with our enrollment strategy."
