DULUTH, MN — UMD posted a convincing 63-28 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference football victory over Minnesota State University-Moorhead Saturday, but the Bulldogs may have not been the biggest winners of the night.
Through sales of camouflage caps, game-worn jerseys, and commemorative coins, UMD raised over $5,000 for Operation One Voice as part of the Bulldogs' annual Military Appreciation Day at James S. Malosky Stadium. Operation One Voice is a program designed by police officers, firefighters and community leaders to generate funds to help support the immediate needs of children and families of wounded and fallen Special Operations Forces.
“We were honored to support and give back to those that have sacrificed so much for our nation,” said UMD Athletic Director Josh Berlo. “Operation One Voice is an exceptional effort to help our veterans and the Bulldogs are proud to play a small role in it.”
“I am sure that all of our Special Ops soldiers and their families are extremely grateful to the Bulldog football team and the UMD athletic staff for all that they did last weekend,” said John Economos, a UMD football alumnus and long-time supporter of Operation One Voice.
A limited number of the three exclusive Military Appreciation Day items are still available for purchase at the UMD Athletic Office (call 218-726-8168 for more information). Jerseys are $100 each, caps $25 and coins $10.
