UMD Center for Economic Development Offers Upper Midwest Basic Economic Development Course

July 22– 26, 2013, the UMD Center for Economic Development is welcoming economic development professionals from Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Indiana and Minnesota to the 20th Annual Upper Midwest Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC), a truly unique economic development educational program.

The Upper Midwest BEDC is a comprehensive educational experience on the theory and practice of economic development fundamentals and is accredited by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). It fulfills the first prerequisites for those who wish to take the Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) Examination. Some of the nation's most knowledgeable and respected finance and economic development leaders will be speaking on topics including:

• Business Retention and Expansion
• Strategic Planning
• Marketing/Attraction
• Economic Development Finance
• Small Business and Entrepreneurship Development
• Community/Neighborhood Development
• Real Estate Development and Reuse
• Workforce Development
• Managing Economic Development Organizations

CED is celebrating 20 years of offering this professional development opportunity to economic development professionals throughout the Midwest. Over the past 20 years this course has drawn attendees from around the United States and even internationally. More than 800 people have attended the Upper Midwest Basic Economic Development Course in its 20-year history.

The UMD Center for Economic Development is a joint program of the UMD Labovitz School of Business and Economics, the Natural Resources Research Institute, and the Swenson College of Science and Engineering.
