UMD Teams Participating in Duluth Polar Bear Plunge

DULUTH, MN — University of Minnesota Duluth students, faculty, and staff are participating in this year's Duluth Polar Bear Plunge on Sat., Feb. 16. The event will be held lakeside at Canal Park, with check-in located at Grandma's Sports Garden beginning at noon on the day of the Plunge.

Two shuttle buses will be running continuously from the UMD Kirby Bus Hub to Grandma's Sports Garden on the day of the event from noon until 5:30 p.m.

Many students have been actively working to set up teams, with 17 teams registered to date. To support a team or a plunger, or register to be a part of this event, visit http://www.plungemn.org/group/umd. All funds raised benefit Minnesota Special Olympics athletes.

The event, presented by Minnesota Law Enforcement, has a history of receiving tremendous UMD support. Last year, UMD raised $169,316 with 1,004 plungers participating. This year's school challenge is against St. Cloud State University, competing for the most funds raised. Last year, UMD raised more funds than St. Cloud State University.

JBNA, an independent fee-based wealth management firm specializing in goal-directed asset management and financial planning, with offices in Duluth, has sponsored the event since 2010. Richard Brown, Labovitz School of Business and Economics senior fellow, is CEO of JBNA.

UMD teams include Labovitz School of Business and Economics, the Alumni Association, the Athletic Training Program, Hockey Cheerleading, Synchronized Skating, and numerous sororities and fraternities.
