UMD Ranks High in U.S. News & World Report's Annual "America's Best Colleges" Edition

UMD Ranked Seventh Among Top Midwest Public Universities

The University of Minnesota Duluth ranked first of any Minnesota Regional Public University and seventh in the Top Midwest Regional Public Universities category by the just released U.S. News & World Report issue of "America's Best Colleges," 2013 edition.

UMD also ranked 35th over-all among all Midwest Universities with Master's Programs (both public and private). There are 424 universities in this category, ranked within four geographic areas: North, South, Midwest and West.

"I am thrilled that UMD is ranked among the most prestigious institutions in our region," said Andrea Schokker, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. This year, UMD had a new ranking. It was listed among 37 regional universities in the Midwest offering an "A-plus school for B students." In addition to being a top-quality school, these universities had to admit a meaningful proportion of non-"A" students.

"I am proud that UMD is regarded nationally as both an A-plus school and an accessible university," said UMD Chancellor Lendley C. Black. "Being numbered among a few universities in the country to provide an exceptional education to students from a variety of backgrounds is important. We continue our dedication to our Land-Grant heritage by helping all students achieve their highest potential."

The rankings are based on peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving. Complete rankings are published in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2013 guidebook due in stores on Tuesday, September 18.
