The University of Minnesota Duluth will present the 2012 Summit on Equity, Diversity, and Multiculturalism entitled "Diversity: Why? ... and what's in it for me?" on Thursday, October 25 from 8 am-5 pm in the Kirby Student Center.

The event is sponsored by UMD's Diversity Commission, Office of Cultural Diversity, Human Resources & Equal Opportunity, and Kirby Student Center.

The Summit is open to the public. The registration fee is $20 (includes lunch). Scholarships are available online. The workshops are free to UMD students. To register, go to www.d.umn.edu/umdoeo/diversity/

The Summit includes interactive workshops, presentations, lectures, films with discussion, and other educational formats that address issues of equity, diversity, and multiculturalism. This Summit draws together the varied disciplines within the community to explore, to educate and to share. Its purpose is to inspire and challenge everyone to work toward creating positive change.

At 11:30 am, a Feature Panel Presentation, "Who's Hiring Who? The Culturally Competent Workforce," will be held.

At 4 pm, Dr. Nancy "Rusty" Barcelo, president of Northern New Mexico College, will give the keynote presentation.
