Want to be active at UMD? Check out the Student Activities Fair on Thurs., Sept. 12, from 11 am–2 pm, on the Kirby Terrace (the rain location is the Kirby Ballroom).
Enjoy free hotdogs and chips while learning about UMD’s many organizations and clubs. Over 100 student groups will be there, giving out information, answering questions, and signing up interested students. These include academic groups, sports and recreation clubs, hobby and special interest groups, Greek Life organizations, multicultural groups, religious organizations, and political and social action groups.
Amanda Taylor, traditions chair for the Kirby Program Board, encourages freshmen to take part in the Student Activities Fair and sign up to be a part of a larger group. Taylor knows from experience that it can make a difference. “When I got to UMD as a freshman, I didn’t get involved right away. But by second semester, I knew I should do something. I like being busy. I got involved with First Year Experience. Getting involved, I felt happier and more connected to UMD,” she said.
Taylor also joined Greek Life. “Through Phi Sigma Sigma, I’ve gotten to know so many people, people I would never have met otherwise. It’s been a great way to network,” she said. Involvement also brought unexpected results. “I started to get better grades.”
Student who are unable to attend the Student Activities Fair can search through a complete list of the various groups and organizations registered at UMD by visiting the Bulldog Link website.
